Hello, I’m Leah G. Alfonso. I’m back to write so that I may speak.
Yes, I’m back to blogging!…well, sort of.
Okay, let me explain. A few months ago, I announced my intention to take a break from blogging so that I could focus on other writing projects. I spent the first two months of my break suffering from writer’s block, and–to make a long story short–I was on the verge of a mental breakdown. In May, I finally, got the break I needed and am still experiencing the best writing streak I’ve had in a long time.
However, there’s still a lot that I need to do before I can sit down and say “okay, I’m ready to publish my first book.” I did finish a draft of that dreaded chapter I was stuck on for so long, and I wrote up several character profiles that allowed me to figure out who my characters are, what their role is in the story, and what makes them who they are. But now I’m wrapping up a draft of chapter two, and on top of that I’m still finalizing the plot AND establishing more characters AND working out the kinks of the setting. And this is all just the first part of what I hope will be a book series.
With all that said, I’m not quite ready to call it quits on my blog for good. There’s still a lot that I want to write about, and it’s great to have a platform like this where I can share my thoughts on art, theology, politics, or the other random stuff my mind gets stuck on. So instead of posting something every week, I’ve decided to post something every month, starting on the 12th of July. This way, I can keep my blog up and still have enough energy for my other projects. I’ll try this for a year, and then next summer I’ll look back, see how I’ve been doing, and go from there.
In other news, I am now taking requests! I already know what I’m going to write for my July 12 post, but everything else I’ve planned for the rest of the year is only tentative. So if there’s anything you’d like me to write about, or if you’d like to get in touch with me, you can email me at email@example.com. You can also comment on any of my other posts or follow me on Twitter. What’s that? Why yes, I am a little ashamed to admit that I have a Twitter account. But there it is.
Thank you to everyone who’s encouraged and supported me, not just during my hiatus but also before. As a special treat (and because this post doesn’t have a lot of substance), here’s a video of one of my favorite moments from John Oliver’s “Last Week Tonight.”
Until next time, this is Leah G. Alfonso saying “so long.”
